Grab your friends and come to the Friends of Shawnee Town Craft and Fall Festival

More than 130 vendors will converge on Shawnee Town 1929 for its annual Craft and Fall Festival on Sept. 19.

Dozens of vendors will be on hand selling home décor, unique gifts and holiday presents for that hard-to-buy-for family member or friend on your gift list; enjoy live music and food while strolling the grounds, too. Free kids activities will keep your little ones entertained as well. While you’re attending the fair, enjoy stepping back in time in Shawnee Town, an historic farming town from the 1920s and see for yourself what life was like a century ago.

Bring your senses of adventure, fun and community to Raymore’s Festival of the Trails

Raytown’s Festival of the Trails will step off on its annual observance on Sept. 12. The event is a commemoration of the three westward pioneer trails that wound through what became the Raytown community. It also celebrates the Rock Island bike and hiking trail that opened last year. This is the sixth year for the popular event.

Much of the activities will take place at the Rice-Tremonti Home, 8801 E. 66th St., 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Admission to the site is free, but donations are appreciated. A full day of family fun is planned with games and crafts for the kids, tours of the historic home and a huge craft fair on the grounds.

Historical interpreters will appear in period dress, the Missouri Free Trappers will be camped on site, a blacksmith with demonstrate his skills, and there will be a wool-spinning demonstration. Food trucks will be present, and the Friends of the Rice-Tremonti Home will hold a bake- and ice cream sale.

Activities are also scheduled in the downtown area. Food deals will be offered at local restaurants, and live music will be on site.

Flea Market tradition continues in Brownville

Brownville will host its 69th annual Fall Flea Market and Arts & Crafts Show, Sept. 26-27.

Taking place at Main Street and the Depot, attendees will marvel at the variety of antiques, collectibles, and homemade art and crafts for sale by more than 260 dealers. Admission and parking are both free; the event is sponsored by the Brownville Historical Society. Food options will be available for purchase, but most vendors only take cash.

Big deals in store for Iowa’s Largest Arts and Crafts Show

You won’t have to drive far to find bargains at Iowa’s Largest Arts and Crafts Show this fall.

The show, sponsored by Callahan Promotions Inc., collects more than 250 exhibitors from seven states under one roof, Sept. 25-27 in the Varied Industries Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Products up for grabs include solid oak furniture, pottery, jewelry, clothing, floral wreaths, stained glass, lawn and garden art, and even consumable goodies, all within 80,000 square feet of shopping space.

Kids 10 and younger are free; admission for those older than 10 is $7; that admission rate is good for all three days of the show.

Save the date for the next What Cheer flea market

Who couldn’t use even more sunny cheer this fall? For that, the What Cheer Flea Market has you covered.

The famous flea market will take place Oct.1-4 on the Keokuk County Fairgrounds in What Cheer. As always, the market will feature vendors selling antiques, military memorabilia, collectibles, old tools, primitives, postcards, glassware, stamps, coins, jewelry, furniture, baseball cards, and more.

For shoppers, organizers offer a list of tips to make the most of their visit, including:

Bring a bag, wagon, or cart for your purchases
Bring sunscreen, wear a hat and stay hydrated
Pets are welcome, but clean up after them; also, they must remain on a leash
Bring cash or plan to use the ATM at Gate 1.
