Show will feature antique farm vehicles, tools in action

 
For a glimpse at old-fashioned farm power, plan to attend the 73rd annual show of the Tri-State Antique Engine and Threshers Association, July 30-Aug. 1 in Bird City.

Attendees will be able to marvel at more than a dozen operating steam engines and gas engines, as well as demonstrations of wheat binding and threshing; a saw mill, tractor pull, kids activities, historic buildings, quilts, a printing press and chuck wagon breakfast round out the activities. Collectors may bring their items to display. Those traveling with an RV may park it on the grounds, which offers a shower house.

Go outdoors in Olathe with summer markets

Break out the sunscreen and baseball cap as multiple Olathe antique stores prepare for their July outdoor markets.

The markets will all take place on the same day – July 25 – at locations throughout town, including Sentimental Journey Marketplace  and Junk-N-Disorderly. Green Expressions is hosting Christmas in July throughout the month of July. While you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by Lone Elm Antiques, too.

Get your antiques priced by a pro at Jesse James

Professional appraiser Tom Tangen will visit Jesse James Antique Mall on July 11, offering free appraisals on that day.

Tangen’s interest in antiques began during childhood, He has a special interest in political memorabilia, as his uncle worked as campaign manager for President John F. Kennedy. He moved to Hollywood, where he worked in film and television for more than 30 years. Tangen also hosted a talk show in which he talked about his work in the industry. Of course, he began to collect celebrity autographs as well, amassing a collection of more than 10,000. In addition to autographs, Tangen began to collect antiques.

“I did the big antique shows in California for years: the Long Beach Antique show, the Glendale Antique show and the Rose Bowl Antique show which is one of the largest shows in the Country. I was known as ‘Tinseltown Tom,’” according to a press release. “I specialized in Hollywood memorabilia and jewelry; I sold antiques of the stars!  I knew hundreds of celebrities and if they needed to have an appraisal or wanted to sell something they would call me!”

Tangen will offer appraisals from 1 to 4 p.m., returning to the store on Sept. 12.

Greenwood celebrating America’s 250th with outdoor markets

The shops that make up Greenwood’s Antique District are gearing up to mark the country’s 250th anniversary with special events.

The Celebrate USA Outdoor Market gathers them all in the sunshine to not only herald the country’s big birthday, but also to say “hello” to summer and the upcoming Father’s Day. That market will take place June 13. For more information, call the Greenwood Vintage Market at 816-537-7172.

The Vintage Vault on Main will host its event, Americana 250: Antiques on the Pavilion, June 12-13, in the sunshine as well. While the antiques for sale might not be as old as the country itself, treat yourself to some fine American craftsmanship in items that have been built to last. Merchant Square packs June with variety of events

Merchant Square Antique Marketplace in Independence is keeping its calendar full this month.

June revs up the fun with a classic car show on June 6. Live music will be on site, and remember to stop inside for some shopping or a bite at the store’s BBQ restaurant.

You’ll feel like a kid again when the store hosts its cards and collectibles show June 19-20. Find that one baseball card or action figure that will finally complete your collection after all these years.
