By Claire M. Lavin

With the spooky season upon us, it’s time to think about decorating the house for Halloween. And if you wish to add a vintage touch, allow author Claire Lavin to be your guide through Halloween collectibles and decorations of yesteryear in her book “Timeless Halloween Collectibles, 1920-1949.”
Many historians, scholars, and collectors consider the years of 1920-1949 to be the “Golden Years” of Halloween production. The book includes elaborately-illustrated party invitations, as well as a host of die-cut items that, according to the publisher’s website, have “graphics so vivid they almost jump from the pages.” Party games, hats, and Jack-O’-Lanterns aplenty fill the book’s pages and more than 350 photographs. Item descriptions include the stock number, initial year of release, and the proper name of the item are included here, having been taken directly from holiday sales catalogs. Lavin includes her own commentary.
Many of these items you’ll recognize from your childhood, but some of the items are never-before-seen treasures, carefully photographed and richly described.
